Western Xioquen vs Eastern Xioquen

The two major regions of the realm called Xioquen can be separated as West and East. As a result of long-forgotten geomantic disasters, the central part of the continent is split by the so-called ‘broken lands’ areas of tectonic instability, sudden jagged peaks and underground tunnels filled with water. As a result, most of the modern culture of Xioquen can be roughly split into two major groups:

  • The West is more tribal-minded, partially as a result of less resources available especially further west as the desert encroach. Semi-autonomous tribes and city-states are much more common and aside from a few overly ambitious conquerors, people rarely see the point to create sprawling empires.
  • The East meanwhile, has inherited many of the wonders of the Zeymedean Empire and much of it’s infrastructure, such as roads. While in many ways almost as fragmented as the West, the East of Xioquen has a stronger mentality of empire building and most of it’s rulers dream of large, prosperous continent-spanning empires and can engage in decades of warfare and political intrigue.

Regions

These regions are not always political or even cultural regions, as Xioquen is rather large and fragmented world. Rather they exist to more easily classify each smaller sub-region and kingdoms.

The Inheritor Cities/Nations

Key to the geopolitics of Xioquen are the Inheritor Cities, who are powerful city or states whose supremacy is through their inheritance of rare Zeymedean lore: specifically, these cities have repositories of Mnemonic Crystal engraved with the fractured knowledge of the Zeymedean Empire, wether codes of law, historical documents, sciences or most important long-lost Theurgic and Theotechnical knowledge.
